Wireless Dog Fences

A wireless dog fences may not be the answer for keeping your dog safe. You need to take in to consideration the type of dog you have, the features of the any wireless dog fence and the layout of the property. The circular signal emitted from a wireless dog fence may not be the answer.

Wireless dog fences can stop a dog from escaping as long as they radio signal is not interfered with and the dog understands the circular radius.
Read the 5 things you should know about a Pet Barrier radio dog fence.

Dog can dig under fence.A dog can jump a traditional fence or run through open gages. Once a dog escapes it faces some unpleasant dangers, being taken by a Shire ranger, or causing an accident that the owner would be responsible for.

The invisible fence radio signal of wireless dog fences makes a Pet Barrier around the property in a circular fashion. However they are restricted in that they cannot be manipulated to give the dog full range of the property and fence lines. Preventing a dog from digging in an internal garden bed is not feasible with a wireless dog fence.

A wireless dog fence emits a circular radio signal from a central point that can be interfered with. Metal objects, such as sheds and vehicles might obscure the signal from full transmission, and could cause confusion with other radio signals in the house area.

Wireless dog fences may not be able to surround an area within a property where the dog mustn’t go. Dog owners can protect their gardens with a system that uses a radio fence wire that enables the radio signal to be manipulated more easily. The dog gets the full run of the property with the wire following the edges of garden beds and recognizes good visual references/line as to where it can and can’t go.

A wireless fence for a dog may not suit the property or have the features needed to keep the dog safe. Some important elements that may not be included, for example surge protection and a guarantee that stray radio signals will not affect the performance of the unit. Look for built-in surge protection on the power adaptor and a coded digital FM radio frequency. Not all radio signals are the same.

Some dog owners are concerned about what the dog will feel. The stimulation that the dog receives from a radio dog fence is similar to the static from a shopping trolley. Some owners wonder whether they must train their dog to react properly to the pet barrier; the answer is that the owner must help the dog learn to respond properly, but the training is not complicated. With electronic dog fencing, the owner rewards the dog for stopping when it feels the stimulation. It is important for the owner to set and adjust the level of stimulation at a rate the dog can handle.

It is important to get a dog fence collar with programmable levels that can be changed to follow the dog through the training process. Starting at a low level give enables training the dog to be an easier experience for both the dog and the owner.

Sometimes dogs learn that they can linger just inside the Pet Barrier Warning Zone. This will run the battery down. In some cases, a dog may learn that if he waits long enough, he will no longer feel the static stimulation after running down the battery. This is a dangerous situation for your dog. A good dog fence collar will have ‘anti linger’ to signal the dog to get out of the warning zone. This keeps the dog safe, and prevents the battery from running down. It corrects the dog after a short period of time in the warning zone. A 2 year replaceable battery gives a dog owner much less to worry about.

We all want to keep our dog safe but a traditional fence may not be enough to protect your dog. It is no good tying a dog up all day to prevent it from escaping but a Wireless dog fence may not give the flexibility to be the answer. You should compare the features and the needs of your property and your dog carefully.

Dear Colin can the wireless dog fence be use in a straight line... ie: from point to point? I have a big backyard, but need to limit access to half of it while my dog recovers from leg surgery. thanks, Kath
